Bob Dylan Poble Espanyol Montjuich Barcelona, Spain June 24, 2010 Taper: lbp51 Lineage: Monacor MCE-4000 > Jantemp's handmade batterypack > edirol-R09hr > wav (96k, 24 bit, stereo) > wav (44.1k, 16 bit, stereo) [adobe audition 1.0 / highest quality sample rate conversion - fix] > flac (flac 1.2.1b w/flac frontend 1.7.1 - align on SB option - level 8 - verify on) Several problems with this recording. Soundboard was too high from the beginning and kept growing higher song after song until they realised there was some bass distortion so they turned volume down, even fluctuating heavily at times, as can be heard on "Rainy Day Women" and later on "Like A Rolling Stone" after a minute into the song. Recording levels were modified several times along the show to avoid clipping. Before "Just Like A Woman" I had already managed to sort out all kind of things and the recording was looking fine but a drunkard came to stay around and started to caugh right beside my mics. As I made a gentle gesture to avoid him, he just came closer and screamed out like crazy into my ear (that's to say close to the mike). That was in the middle of JLAW. The worse being that the automatic limiter jumped in at that moment to rectify input according to a superlevel like that, cutting all the rest of my recording at -12dB! I had to check out and correct levels constantly 'til the end of show to avoid clipping distortion or extremely low levels. The input was almost clipping at the minimun, so I finally decided to set level 1 and let it go that way. Not bad at all. But still a problem I was not conscious of at the moment. That guy must have made me move on abruptly and it looks like a jack got loose, so it started producing statics and disturbing noise until it finally broke away causing a few dropouts on last part of "Jolene". Couple more drops appeared on "Honest With Me" but those must have been caused by a battery failure. So I could tell it was a continual fight against adversity. I've tried to solve the problems fixing them in adobe audition, but I'm not sure at all it will be OK. Most of the drops, at least, were impossible to fix. Anyway, this is dedicated to the few friends I have at the Dylan trade community. Especially the ones already gone, as our dear Jan Tempelam who gave me his own mics as inheritance, our long time missed Robert (r9453), the supportive ones and all of them who treated me kind. There's a quite popular spanish song people used to sing while Sanfermines in Pamplona: "uno de Enero, dos de Febrero, tres de Marzo, cuatro de Abril... cinco de Mayo, seis de Junio, siete de Julio San Fermin! ...A Pamplona hemos de ir con una bota, con una bota, a Pamplona hemos de ir con una bota y un calcetin" (1st of January, 2nd February, 3rd of March, 4th of April, 5th of May, 6th of June, 7th July San Fermin! ...To Pamplona we shall go with a boot, with a boot, to Pamplona we shall go with a boot and a sock). Today is San Fermin and is a very special day for us in my country, and today we will meet Germany in the semifinal of the World Cup, wooowwwW! [may San Fermin bless and keep us always!]. There's somebody out there on the trade scene who calls himself "Fermin" and he really gave me a helping hand along this tour, so thanks to him and congrats on his saint Patron, if only as an alias. Note that "bota" in Spanish means boot as well as in "Boots of Spanish Leather" but it is also the leather bag/recipient where we keep the wine to drink! Aupa San Fermin!
