It could be the Newport Folk Festival, it could be a Victoria's Secret commercial, or it could be Lake Tahoe's Harrah's Casino, a venue first made famous during Elvis Presley's comeback tours of the 1970s. The three-disc bootleg set Elvis Is Back in the Building documents both of Dylan's October 13, 2002, Harrah's gigs. Despite abandoning his traditional guitar for an electric piano, Dylan delivers an energetic, generous performance split between hits, fan-favorite album cuts, and covers spanning from the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" to Neil Young's "Old Man." Eschewing the glitz and theatrics common to casino productions, Dylan simply stays his traditional course, recapturing the ragged glories of the Rolling Thunder Revue tour of three decades past. A month after longtime friend Warren Zevon announced his terminal lung cancer, he also includes a pair of thoughtful Zevon covers, the poignant "Accidentally Like a Martyr" and the blistering "Lawyers, Guns and Money." Nothing transcendent here, perhaps, but vastly entertaining nonetheless.
