It is is a good disc for fans of Dylan in the studio, but you are only getting six or seven songs. In the first four tracks, he is not making an album, but just having fun. The tape is turned on and just left rolling as Dylan calls up a few covers that are running through his head. As the tape starts off, he really gets into Just When I Needed You Most. The vocals are up front, and solid (although a little too much compression has been put on the tape). He is away from the mic as the other songs start, but he walks up after a few words. Twist And Shout cuts in and out, most likely on a separate tape. The vocals are not quite as sharp on this one. In The Summertime is not only annoying, the four versions are misleading. There is only one 11 minute version, of which Dylan sings three minutes. The vocals are as contrived as they are buried in the mix. The remaining eight minutes are filled with uninspired instrumentation. The same version is then cut to different links, with the slightest of EQ changes from a home unit, and presented as four different takes. Freedom For The Stallion, on the other hand, is two vastly different takes. The third take is just a one minute alternate version of take two. The instrumentals are all vastly different from one another, but who knows what they are. They may or may not be Dylan arrangements; and he may or may not be present for them, or even know they exist, for that matter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information: source: Sunset Studios, Hollywood, CA April 1987 Cherokee Studio, Hollywood, CA December 1984 Although the package lists Ocean Way studio, these are the most probable dates and studios.
