I know that I can hear the same song from Dylan 10 times and it can sound completely different so really, not much musical surprises me; I even enjoy the change. Perhaps because I haven't been keeping up with him lately, I was very surprised and a bit disappointed, frankly that Dylan didn't pick up a guitar once. Dylan played the organ (and occasional harmonica) all night and boy was he spectacular! Don't get me wrong, his backing band was top notch, darned tight and perfectly complimented Dylan by staying in the background, not being too flashy but shining when needed. Impressive indeed; it's just that it would have been nice to see Dylan play the guitar on at least one song. I was sure he was going to pick up his guitar on one of the encore songs but alas, he didn't. The sound was surprisingly good. I was worried due to the fact that this was my first time travelling to Kamloops and had heard (from an unreliable source) that the sound was terrible. Not only was it a very nice venue with comfortable seats, easy access and good quality non-aggressive security, it had great sound too. I was a little worried that the aluminum foot rows would be loud if people arrived late or started stomping to the beat but in the end that wasn't the case. The mix was perfect; and believe me I am finicky about this big time. Every instrument was exactly where it needed to be and nothing stood out or was inaudible. It seems that this just doesn't happen in enough concerts so I was very pleased. Perfect. Huge kudos go out to Dylan's soundman. The show had a very homey atmosphere because of the mostly dim and only white lighting used most of the night but I'm not so sure this was a good thing. I don't know what mood the lightman was trying to go for but he should have known better. I was lucky because I was so close but I suspect the people in the back felt a bit cheated because of this. It would have just been hard to see. I've never seen an entire show so dim before in my life. I'm not asking for anything flashy or anything...just a bit brighter. I can tell you that my camera did NOT like the lightman at all. It was very hard to get good shots because of the low light.
