Sam Peckinpah's House, Durango, Mexico. December 1972 to January 1973; 1. Billy This is an interesting one, according to all sources Dylan & Peckinpah retired to a little alcove where Sam sat in his old rocking chair & listened to Dylan sing & play. But there is a definite second vocal here (sounds very much like Kristofferson) It’s also stated that Sam had it made into a tape so that he could listen to it again whenever he wanted to. What does that mean? Did he tape it during that performance or did he have Dylan record it later the same evening or at a later date? Judging by the accounts, it seems as if more than one song was performed. Dylan, Vocals, Guitar & Harmonica. Unknown back-up vocalist, Kristofferson maybe? Quote: The businessmen from Taos want you to go down They’ve hired Pat Garrett to force a showdown Billy, don’t it make ya feel so low-down To be shot down by the man who was your friend? My belief is that this is all there is. The additional bits are unverified as genuine.
